Outlandia

London Fieldworks - Outlandia - seen here

Thanks to Dezeen for this morning's post on this amazing art project in Glen Nevis in the Scottish Highlands. This is my dream studio! Commissioned by artist led, London Fieldwork and realised by architects, Malcolm Fraser, Outlandia has been developed as a flexible space and field station in which artists and community groups can come together to consider creative responses to environmental concerns. The structure is inspired by "...childhood dens, wildlife hides and bothies, by forest outlaws and Japanese poetry platforms."

Built in the Glen and facing out to the slopes of Ben Nevis, the project encapsulates and explores the issues of wilderness and human intervention. Tensions between areas of outstanding natural beauty, industry and community have under pinned the project.

Ukraine Floating Barn

Floating Barn - Seen here

This strange structure can be found in the Ukraine, it is supported by a single cantilever. It was apparently once used as a barn for storing fertiliser. The painting below is by Llangadog artist, Julie Ann Sheridan from her recent exhibition at The Last Gallery which she owns and runs with husband, Mick.

Terunobu Fujimori

Terunobu Fujimori - Takasugi-an - seen here

Thanks to Hazel Terry on her blog The Art Room Plant for reminding me about another Terunobu Fujimori structure I saw featured a while back in Blueprint magazine. Here's another link about the piece with some great images too.

This image of the V& A tea house was on the Guardian online this morning also, which shows the scale of the piece - must make an effort to visit!

Architects Build Small Spaces

Beetle's House - Terunobu Fujimori - seen here

I like the look of these architectural interventions opening tomorrow at the V&A in London. Architects Build Small Spaces features the work of seven architects chosen from a long-list of nineteen who submitted proposals. Built within the V&A galleries, the structures explore ideas of refuge and retreat.
